Achievements

Due to the initiative of the District Food Controller, Netrakona in collaboration with the Department of Food, the supply of food grains in the market and the market price remained stable during the said period. A total of 1.69 lakh MT of rice has been procured from domestic sources in the last 3 years. Besides, about 0.75 million tons of food grains (rice and wheat) have been distributed to various sectors including social development sector. In the last 3 years, 0.38 million tonnes of paddy has been purchased directly from the farmers and the price of paddy has been paid into the farmer's bank account in order to provide incentives to the farmers at a higher rate. Honorable Prime Minister's Priority Food Friendly Program has been adopted to provide low cost food assistance to the poor masses. Through this program, about 64110 families in the department have been supplied 30 kg of rice per month at the rate of only Tk 10/15 per kg for 5 months of the year. The capacity of the existing government food warehouse has been increased to 20,000 MT.
